THE COMMON BOND

Joining the Credit Union is easy! You are eligible to become a member if you live or work in the “Common Bond”. Our Common Bond centres on Portlaoise but extends beyond Ballyfin to the west, beyond Stradbally to the east, to Emo in the north and almost to Ballyroan in the south.

To join you must complete an application form. These can be obtained in the office or printed from here. The downloadable form requires Acrobat Reader. Under law, your form must be accompanied by proof of identity with photograph (such as driving licence or passport) together with proof of address (such as a telephone bill). Proof of your PPS number is also needed

If you have any difficulty in providing proof of ID, address and a PPS number the staff will try and help you with alternatives.

A nomination form is completed at the same time. This nominates a person to receive your savings and insurance benefits in the event of your death. It is one of the great attractions of credit union membership that the sum of money you leave behind can be paid to your family quickly (to a maximum of €24,000) without waiting for probate and without inheritance tax.
