Home insurance is also available from the Credit Union. A large number of members have used this service.

The home insurance policy currently offered by Portlaoise Credit Union is HomeUnion from Allianz plc. This policy was designed for Irish Credit Unions.

Contents are normally insured for either 25% or 50% of the value of the building cover but you can alter these levels if appropriate. You are reminded to review your level of building cover on a regular basis due – the cost of reinstating your home after a fire is rising very quickly.

It is vital to insure you home if you are purchasing your home using a Laois County Council Loan or if you are participating in the Tenant Purchase Scheme or Shared Ownership Scheme. The Council covers the structure of your house under the Tennant Purchase Scheme but private insurance is needed for everything else.
