Schools
The Credit Union has savings schemes in four local Primary Schools- Scoil Bhride, Scoil Mhuire, Sacred Heart School and Stradbally Boys National School. Pupils are encouraged to save a small amount of their pocket money each week, which is collected by teachers in the school and lodged in the pupils’ names with the Credit Union.
Pupils get used to seeing Credit Union staff calling to the school and they get used to the concept of credit union.
The idea is to develop the habit of saving among the young. The habit of thrift, if developed early, will last a lifetime.
It is expected that the scheme will be extended to other Primary Schools in Portlaoise and the surrounding countryside.
The Credit Union also organises the long-running school poster competition each year and a primary school quiz.
